Waterloo Uncovered

Waterloo Uncovered (WU) is running a summer school with Utrecht University this year, that has been designed veterans very much in mind. The course is also for students, and (fully accredited by the Utrecht University) comes with the chance for any participants to gain 4 ECTS credits, towards an undergraduate degree.

Hosted by University College Roosevelt (UCR) in the Netherlands (UCR are a college of Utrecht University, and one of the five WU partner organisations), the 11-day course is entry level, and comprises of: trips to battlefields (including Waterloo) finds handling, lectures, discussions and even some outreach work. It is ideal for anyone who wants to learn a bit more about battlefield archaeology, the battle of Waterloo, and Waterloo Uncovered.

WU staff, Including Tony Pollard will be teaching, and the course will be run by WU Head of Student Engagement, Vicki Haverkate - archaeologist, lecturer at UCR, and member of the WU team since we began in 2015.

It promises to be an amazing opportunity. We already have some Dutch veterans and students signed up, as well as some UK WU participants very interested.

In terms of funding, WU have spoken to Help For Heroes, who welcome calls from veterans who want to attend - especially if the summer school will help them with their recovery, getting into work, or furthering education. For instance; if someone desperately needs a break, wants to be an archaeologists and learn more about what it entails, or is thinking about doing some more education (in any subject) and wants a chance to experience university life…  then this is the course for them, and they should, contact H4H.
